Kenya is currently our main country focus in East Africa. The country is marked by stark social inequality, affecting both rural farming communities and young people growing up in underserved urban neighbourhoods.
Strengthening food security and protecting natural resources
In western Kenya, smallholder farming families struggle with irregular rainfall, depleted soils, crop failures and the high cost of chemical fertilisers, pesticides and seeds. Many families also lack reliable access to clean water and practical information on balanced nutrition and household hygiene, with consequences for children’s health and development. Vivamos strengthens food security and climate resilience in the region by promoting sustainable, agroecological farming practices, practical nutrition education and the protection of local water sources.
Creating vocational opportunities for young people
In urban areas such as Nairobi, Kisumu and Nakuru, many young adults face high youth unemployment, precarious work and limited access to vocational training. Vivamos supports them through a holistic training approach that combines practical, recognised vocational training with psychosocial support. We also accompany young people in their job search or as they take their first steps towards self-employment.
